Zia Ur Rehman

Software Engineering Manager

Hey, I'm Zia.

Engineering leader with deep full-stack roots, passionate about reliable systems, clear architecture, and teams that ship with care.

I'm a Software Engineering Manager based in Virginia with 3 years leading engineering teams and more than a decade of hands-on experience, from junior web developer through lead full-stack engineer across healthcare, risk management, and financial services.

I started my career writing websites and PHP applications, then grew into software engineering and technical leadership at companies including Guidance Residential, Lowers Risk Group, and SafeRide Health. Along the way I shipped production APIs, migrated monoliths to AWS microservices, and mentored engineers from early career through senior and lead roles.

Today I lead a distributed engineering organization focused on hiring, roadmaps, architecture reviews, and delivery, while staying close to the code through design discussions, incident learnings, and hands-on guidance on cloud-native systems, event-driven workflows, and secure healthcare platforms.

I care about software that works under real-world load and still feels dependable to users and partners. When I'm not working, I'm with family, exploring new technology, or helping engineers think through architecture and career growth.

What I Do

Engineering Leadership

Lead and mentor distributed teams across time zones. Drive hiring, 1:1s, architecture reviews, and engineering standards that improve velocity, quality, and delivery, grounded in years of lead engineer experience before moving into management.

Cloud & Microservices

Architect cloud-native platforms on AWS using Terraform, ECS, Lambda, SQS, and containerized services. Guide monolith-to-microservices transitions with clear technical roadmaps.

API & Platform Architecture

"A platform is only as good as the teams that can operate it." Design scalable REST APIs, event-driven queuing systems, and integrations for IVR, partners, and healthcare transportation platforms used in production every day.

Healthcare & Compliance

Deliver secure, compliant systems in regulated environments, collaborating with product, operations, and security teams to meet healthcare industry requirements.
